"I think I can, I think I can... holy cow believe it or not I CAN!!!"

Studying and working hard towards a degree in Criminal Justice is not only hard but challanging at times even for those of us who are truely interested in our "Justice System". Starting out the week I enrolled, I thought to myself " how tough can this be? I have the strong desire to learn everything there is to learn about our laws and I am determined to be one of the "ones" who will make a positive difference in someway."

I was sooo intimidated by my first 2 assignments , I almost dropped out and buried my head in shame. But reality hit me , I had 3 good reasons why I couldnt tuck my tail between my legs and run. They are as follows:

1. Kendra

2. James

3.Brian

my 3 amazing children. I have always told them thoughout their whole life, "never give up on your dreams & anything worth have and being proud of is worth working very hard for."

I think they at first thought I was a little insane , for wanting to go back to school especially at my age ( for the record , I am not a senior citizen, no offense but I am also not a spring chicken!)

I tried hard to hide my feeling of struggling with whether to drop or to gather my strength and give it my all. But kids are alot smarter than we give them credit for at times , even at the young age's of 8,11 & 15. they started asking questions about things I was studying those 1st few weeks & trying to give me "quiet time" when I was studying for tests and so what. Those little tidbits of encouragement helped me to stand strong and lead by example for my children. Kendra is now 22 and even though she graduated 3 weeks ago from college, while being on the deans list the whole way through, shes is currently "waiting at the finish line" cheering me on and giving me " tips on how to relax and study " and not letting myself get so overwhelmed when faced with a hundred page reading assignment with a paper due on it in less than 2 weeks.

James is doesnt pick on me as much anymore for having homework "at my age" and Brian is asking more questions & is willing to quiz me on stuff at any given moment.

I guess the reason I felt the need to post about my school and studys is that. if you put a little faith in yourself, have a support team (no matter what their ages!)  you CAN do anything you put your mind to . I am getting ready to start another semester of school with only 2 semesters left until I achieve what I set out to do, earn my degree in Criminal Justice. I am determined to work somewhere in the Juvenile Justice part of the system , to help out the kids who make that one mistake and I want to help them learn , that we ALL make wrong decisions from time to time but if we learn from it , its a mistake and we can still make something of ourselves aslong as we dont keep repeating those mistakes. If I can help just one child see their self-worth even after they have made a mistake or bad decision .... well all the late night assignment, final exams & hair-pulling-out 10 page term papers will have been well worth it.

Alway tell yourself "  I THINK I CAN..." and you adventually WILL.
