I have quit smoking and I would love to hear from other recent quittees.

1. how did you distract yourself and find other things to do?

2. what were the tough days? how did you overcome them?

I was lucky when I quit, i did it cold turkey, but I did it for my son, so it was easy for me at least . I ate a ton (all fruit) drank lots of water, and worked out a lot, it kept my mind busy. find a new hobby.

For the hard days I just kept reminding myself why I quit, and that a little bitty cigarette wouldnt beat me, haha. They didn't have the nicorette gum then (16 years ago). I would pretend that i would take a drag from a pencil & go through all the motions, that always held me over in a pinch. Might be goofy but it worked for me. Oh, almost forgot, sunflower seeds. Lots of sunflower seeds. Smile

I hope some of this will help.

You can do it, keep going! You can do it, keep going!

says: When I quit I chewed the nicotine gum and kept myself busy.  I didnt chew as much as they said too, I would chew on one piece for 3 or more hours instead of the changing out every half hour or so.  This allowed me to ween myself off of smoking very quickly and then switch to regular gum!!  As long as I kept myself busy and didnt allow myself to have a free 5 minutes, I didnt have time to smoke.  Drink TONS of water.  It will flush your system out and help you to quit faster. Wait....  If you feel an urge coming on, keep busy and wait, the urge will pass you by in 1-5 minutes and you will be fine.  DO NOT GIVE IN!!  Do not say, "oh, I have been doing so good I think I will just have one drag, or half a cigarette".  If you do that you will have to start over from scratch.  You can do it, it is hard, but if it is really what you want you will be able to achieve it!!
