Venting, with apologies.

I don't know if it counts as the "big bump," because it was brought on by outside events, but I haven't been here for about a week.

More layoffs at work, and I know my job could be on the line in a few months, or a few months after that. I work for a company that's looking to automate/outsource as much as possible. It's a terrible climate to work in. They fire people you consider friends, then they tell you what an "exciting time it is" to work for The Almighty Company! I have no respect left for anyone above me, and I find it really hard to care about what I do at all.

On top of that, my assistant is on a long vacation and I'm not allowed to have anyone else as a substitute. Which means in addition to the  oppressive atmosphere, I have several hours of extra work to do daily. Several unpaid hours, I should say! Where I work "salaried" = "taken advantage of."

Am I complaining? I guess I am! Or at least venting. In this atmosphere, it's been hard to care about continuing with Tools, and it's been hard to find any time, either.

But I checked in today. Is that a good sign?

Right now I feel trapped. I feel like I'm going backwards into my old thought pattern that said "The odds are stacked against me, and I'm no good at getting out of these situations, and this is life and it's going to suck until the day you die." That's really how I used to think. See why I'm here? That's what I'm up against in my own brain. I had managed to stop that kind of thinking for a few months. I hope this is just a temporary relapse.

Today I am going to go to the mirror very frequently. I am going to look myself in the eye and remind myself that my attitude is my decision. In this situation, this may be the most helpful tool from Tools.

Hope your story lately is better than mine. Sorry, but I had to vent somewhere.

Peace, and best wishes!

-A

Kick it into gear!

Man, you need to start getting excited and find your opportunity! It's in the rules! Time to stop complaining and find what it is you are going to do next! I mean it's natural to feel down when outside circumstances present themselves but then at some point we need to take the bull by the horns and steer! So find your horns (or maybe just grab the bull by it's balls) and go for it! You know that nothing ever stays the same from just simple life experience so since it's going to change, make it work for you! 1,2,3....GO!

One more thing...

So I found this guy on iTunes and he has this podcast that is super motivating. He has 5 podcasts a week and each day he focuses on an aspect of life, one being career. He has a new, free podcast on Mondays, so you can check him out, but The only catch is there is a $19.99 per month membership to get the other 4 plus I guess he has a workbook too and his community is WAY bigger than here. Anyway I'm going over there as soon as I finish TOOLS, i think $19.99 is worth what I will be getting, investing in myself really, but right now I just listen to Mondays free podcast. Anyhow, check him out. He's called MorningCoach and if you type that into iTunes search engine you should find it. Good luck man!

Sometimes life deals us a bad hand ...

Kenny Rogers sings a song that says You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.  When life deals us a bad hand we have the power to hold 'em or to fold 'em.  We have the power to find the opportunity in every adversity.  This power is within all of us.  This is the power within our minds.  If we think that we can, we are right.  If we think that we can't we are right.  You have the power to decide.  You have the tools to help you.  You have this community to help you.  You may or may not be able to change the workplace but you can change how you think about it.  I can assure you that by simply changing your own attitude, by changing the way you look at things, things around you will change as well.    All the best,  John
