I'm from one of those huge, home-school Christian families. I grew up around alot of computers and Japanese people, and I'm interested in martial arts. I have two many dreams and aspirations, including being a missionary in Japan and an IS Security Professional.

all questions»

... if I can't do the exercises?

Okay, that isn't my question. My question is - I'm only on day five, but I'm already sort of stumped by the fact that I keep hitting the snooze button. I know it's my responsibility but just saying that isn't changing my behavior. If I don't even do the first exercise, how am I supposed to get anything out of this program?

If someone gets on here and tells me, "that's right, you just need to follow the exercises," without any suggestions for how to make myself do them, I swear to God I am going to delete my account.

I think there are a couple of things you can do.

1. As dsd suggested, move your alarm clock so far away that you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

2. Put a sign next to your alarm clock saying, GET UP, or whatever works for you, or whatever you think you can't ignore.

3. Find a show on tv you like that is on the same time as you want to get up. Perhaps you can enjoy a cup of  coffee watching this, and this is your treat for not sleeping in.

4. Get plenty of sleep so that you don't hit snooze out of sheer exhaustion.

I hear your frustration about not being able to master this initial step. Let me assure you as a long term member of Tools, you will get a lot out of being here and following what exercises you can than giving up because you think you cannot master one. We all will have tough days - days when we will we don't even want to do anything on the exercises list. Even if you only hit snooze once instead of 14 times like I used to, you will have made progress.

You have a lot to look forward to here - and since you posted this in Oct you may have already mastered this. If not, it's okay. really. I'm glad you are still with us.

What is your answer?

I joined TOOLS because:
I am confused about alot of things. I have lots of anger and frustration and I can't seem to discipline myself. Most of the time, I live at minimum capacity and then I give up when the going gets tough. I gave up on tools once before. I want to turn my life around and have a positive outlook. I want to believe that if I just keep a good attitude and keep on doing what I know is right, I will have positive experiences. I want to empower myself to believe the best and do what's good for me even when things look hopeless, which they do now. And because my head hurts quite a bit and I don't know how to handle that.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
Some kind of cross between being a spy and a computer hacker. Something where I get a lot of freedom and flexibility and I can try to solve all kinds of different interesting problems that relate to computers and interpersonal stuff. I want people to be impressed with how smart I am. And an opportunity to use my Karate.
My favorite wild animal is:
 The lion.
Why (describe as much as possible):
The lion is huge, stately, and beautiful. However, the male lion is also extremely strong and agile. He doesn't have to trade magnificence for power-- he has both.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
 Parrot
Why:
I know parrots can't really talk, but they seem really smart.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
Okonomiyaki, Hiroshima-style. The kind with the noodles. And a bowl of udon on the side.
Why:
I haven't had Okonomiyaki for a long time. I love the taste and the texture. And I can't make it myself. I also love the texture of noodle soup.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Why do I have to have a dinner party? Couldn't I have a rave party instead? I suppose I'd invite Jesus Christ - hopefully He'd be there anyway; Abraham Lincoln, King David, a fantastically beautiful and available lady, my father.
Why:
Jesus Christ - He and I have gotten much closer recently. I'd feel kind of lost without Him there. Abraham Lincoln - Something about being influenced by the company you keep. Abraham worked his way from poverty to president of the United States. He was eloquent, wise, hard-working and honest. He also struggled with depression, I'd like to know how that went for him. King David - My all-time hero. Mostly because he was a man after God's own heart. I want the Lord to say that about me, so I'd like to see what I can learn from Him. The Fantastically Beautiful and Available Lady - You really need to know the answer to this one? I'm a guy - I need to have a woman around. My Father - One of the few living people I look up to and pretty much trust.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
 Hawaii
My perfect slice of pizza is:
 Pepperoni and pineapple
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 Jack Daniel's
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
 I like my coffee black.
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
My own business with a lot of human interaction, my own family, to be a church leader
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
Remedy Drive - The Blue One; Disciple - This Might Sting a Little; MxPx - The Ever Passing Moment
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
Get them to come out of their houses and talk to each other
A sunset I remember:
 my exgirlfriend
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
 Captain Kirk
Why:
He had everything a man ever wanted - power, love, and prestige (you didn't really think we cared about money?)
