The chapter for today reminded me that I have not been goal-oriented since I lost my job. I have been looking forward to retirement for many years, but I did not have any plans or dreams. I guess my GOAL was "not working."
But I have a long-term goal now! To accomplish all of the TOOLS. To do that, I need to listen to the video, do my chapter reading, exercises, brain re-training, checklist, coach's notes, etc.
If I accomplish that goal, I can apply the TOOLS to any goal I want to happen! It's NOT rocket science. It's the LAW OF EFFORT!
My 1st goal that I need to achieve is controlling my diabetes, instead of it controlling me. I need to set short-term goals so I won't get frustrated or give up. My short-term goals are:
1) test my blood sugar 3X/day
2) lower my blood glucose level by 10-pt increments.
3) plan weekly menu
4) use menu to make grocery list (no impulse buying)
5) space my meals at regular intervals
6) eat all exchanges/do not skip meals
7) track everything I put in my mouth
8) check in daily with my support group, record blood glucose levels there
9) be "physically active" 10 mins./hour
10)get 8 hr. sleep/night
11)take my oral diabetis medication 3x/day
My long-term goal is: 1) To get my blood glucose levels between 90-120/day.
2) 14-day blood glucose average below 120
3) A1c (every 3 mo.) below 6
I know...my blog is boring! But this is My Program. By setting this goal, I will feel better physically & feel better about myself because I am accomplishing something. I will gain strength, be more mobile, sleep better, be in a better mood, and, last but not least- WEIGHT LOSS will be 1 of the results!
I will have to plan my menu & buy groceries, so my START day is Monday, April 7, 2007. And, just to help keep me on track, ask how I'm doing on my GOALS!
TIA,
Sandy
P.S. Are there any people with diabetes that would like to join me on my journey? You can set your own goals, of course! I would LOVE to have some company/somebody to relate to!
