Just in case there is somebody out there that hasn't heard my story...So I had some things happen in my life. But the most devastating, IMHO, is the loss of my job. That job was my livelyhood, my independence, my self esteem, my social outlet, my support system, my lifestyle. So now I'm on permanent disability but I don't feel "disabled."

I just haven't been able to "get over it." But lately, my attitude has been changing. Today I did day 15, GRATITUDE. I started thinking about my life in a whole different light. The way I see it, I have 2 choices. 1) Accept my change of lifestyle & make the most of it, OR 2) Wallow in self-pity & be miserable the rest of my life. I can't get my old life back. It wasn't that great anyway!

I have a chance to start my life all over again! I have a lot to be thankful for. My family and some great new friends. I have everything I need, thanks be to God. It's the experiences you have that determine the quality of your life. Not where you live, how much money you make. It really doesn't take much for me to be happy. A beautiful sunset, a red-tailed hawk soaring, a sky full of stars, or a walk in the park.

I need  to let this new way of thinking sink in.  I KNOW...

this started out as an intro and turned into a blog!

Please be patient with me...I'm a work in progress!

An Attitude of Gratitude!

I appreciate the reply, coachsteele. It's good to know that you're active in the program. I do have a suggestion for the "Show Support" section. I think it would be helpful to have one that says, "Thank You!". I'm forever thanking the members here, because they are so supportive! And I want to "Thank You!" for making this outstanding site available for FREE!  You're reaching so many people, and changing so many lives! You are a blessing to the world!

Blessings & Good health!

What is your answer?

I joined TOOLS because:
My life has taken some unexpected turns, and I need balance and focus. Since I've changed seasons, I really think that this program has been an answer to my prayers. It's time to learn from my mistakes and start over...again. I'm feeling much more hopeful about the future, because I know it is possible to re-train my brain and and change my life.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
My dream job would be a Dietitian. Of course, I would also be a "recovered food-aholic", so I would be empathetic to the patients. I would love to be able to counsel people, and educate them about the importance of healthy eating, and the major impact that it could make in their lives.
My favorite wild animal is:
Panda bears! They fascinate me. It makes me sad that they are an endangered species, but I'm glad that they are able to breed them successfully in captivity.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
I have a soft spot in my heart for Quaker Parrots. I had never owned a bird until 2000, when I bought my Quaker at a local Pet store. I named my bird Tiki. She "ruled the roost"! Quakers are small buy mighty, and they have quite the personality. I had her around 1-1/2 yrs. She passed on quite unexpectedly. Birds hide their injuries
Why:
I never thought about keeping a bird as a pet until my daughter adopted a conure. Tiki adopted me at the perfect time in my, when I was depressed, feeling worthless, and lonely. She was my friend and companion, and extremely intelligent. She had a vocabulary of approx. 30 words/expressions. You could literally carry on a conversation with her! They say Quakers have the intelligence/temperament of a 2-yr.old human.
Why:
Since joining SparkPeople, and discovering new, healthier food, I have learned to LOVE fish. Of course, where I live, it's more expensive than beef! I know that bottom-feeders are not good for you, but I like most all of the shellfish.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
I'm extremely picky about pizza crust. I like it chewy on the inside and crusty and golden-brown on the outside. As for toppings~ MEGA veggies, REAL canadian bacon, Ital.sausage, and lean grd.beef. I like a moderate amount of fresh mozzarella and fresh parm.cheese. Red pepper flakes also, but not too hot! And I like my pizza sauce slightly sweet and I like to taste the herbs/spices more than the tomatoes.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 N/A!
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
 Cappuccino with Almond Rocca syrup
