8/27/09 Be OK with where I'm at - I love my girlfriend and couldn't stand to lose her, but the more we're together, the more I realize that I'm going to have a give up a lot of things to be with her, including my desire to be on the road

I'm a guy in my late twenties trying to get my life sorted out and settled down a bit...  though the more I work on it, the less I like the "settled down" part.  I'm generally healthy, I don't smoke, I don't have any drug addictions, and I drink only occasionally, like 2 or 3 times a month.  I'm dating the girl I plan to stay with and will be asking her to marry me as soon as I figure out how I'm gonna do it.  There's a lot of things going for me, but I'm having some trouble being ok with a lot them.  I'm looking into this site to try to get my head sorted about what I'm doing and what I want to be doing.  I think that I like change a bit too much, and I'm uncomfortable when things begin to slow down and take on a routine.

I joined TOOLS because:
I'm finding that I become uncomfortable, and ultimately unhappy, when things in my life slow down and become less eventful. I don't think that's this is healthy when I'm trying to settle down into a marriage and have a family. I'm trying to learn more about myself.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
Touring with a band. Maybe playing in it, but I would probably enjoy it even more as the audio engineer on tour. Just traveling all over, working on gigs day and night. Just typing this out makes me realize that my dreams completely conflict with the type of life I would eventually like to lead.
My favorite wild animal is:
I haven't thought about this in a long time... probably a monkey or a chimp.
Why (describe as much as possible):
It's really interesting to watch them reason their way through situations.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
This is changing. It's always been a cat but I just got my first puppy (yellow lab) and it's changing my mind.
Why:
I liked cats because they were so independant. They'd come to you when they needed love but were ultimately OK without it, too. My puppy is winning me over though because when you have to work at him and teach him to behave, it's much more rewarding to see him grow up OK.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
 A pizza.
Why:
I like my eating simple. I love a great big dinner from time to time but if I could have it anyway, I'd like a plate with a slice of pizza and a napkin and call it a day. It feels social, too. Having a pizza around reminds me of a group of friends on a couch hanging out.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Chad Sexton from 311, Jeremy Roenick, Tom Brady, Forrest Griffin, Les Paul
Why:
I would want everyone's story. I want to know where everyone started and what they went through to get where they were. And I'd be interested to find out where they see themselves in the future. And each of them has a direct involvement in something I'm very interested in. Chad Sexton plays drums for one of my favorite bands, 311, mostly due to the personality they exude, and that's personified in Chad. Jeremy Roenick is a great hockey player and also seems to show the most personality of anyone in the sport. He also played for my favorite team, the Flyers, and was loved here in Philly. Tom Brady, well, just leads one of the most star-studded lives of anyone in the world and I'd love to hear his story. Forrest Griffin is an iconic figure in MMA, another sport I'm very interested in. Les Paul... well he invented the solid body electric guitar (the Les Paul is still my guitar of choice) AND he invented multitrack recording, which has turned into a good portion of my life. I'd really want to hear his story.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
Toronto. I just really want to go to the NHL hall of fame. But traveling just about anywhere wouldn't be much fun without the right people.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
Plain! I'm a big fan of the classic pizza slice.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
Whatever IPA they have on tap. If I'm at a bar, I'm drinking nice, and I'm a beer fan, so I just want a nice beer.
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
A darker coffee with a little cream and a little more sugar. That seems to be the balance I like the most.
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
Financial independence, good health for me and my loved ones, and a touring spot with a band as an audio engineer.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
311 - Grassroots, Torche - Meanderthal, Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
Magically make everyone's dogs perfectly behaved!
A sunset I remember:
I don't remember a specific one, but sunsets always remind me of the shore. And I also remember watching sunsets from the living room window in my parents' house when I was little.
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
The main character from Dazed and Confused. I forget his name...
Why:
He had a lot of friends, was a talented guy, and knew how to have fun, but he also seemed to have everything in perspective and a head on his shoulders.
