Empty Nest Transition

This May our youngest will be off to college.  Please share transition stories with me :)  Right now, I feel that I will miss the school activities - athletic competitions, out with other parents afterward, school dances and all that comes with kids.  It has been alot of fun and I would like to put some things in place right now, that I know I will enjoy when it's just the two of us at home.  I feel that I should switch from part-time to full-time work to stay busy - thoughts? experiences to share?  Thanks!

says: Hi, I just joined this group to find some answers to some "friendship" questions I have and saw your post. Our youngest left for college about 7 years ago. I, too, couldn't imagine what I would do with my time. It took a little adjusting with just my husband and me home but after a little while, we really enjoyed the time alone.  Some of the differences are : I don't "have to" make dinner if we decide to go out; I go out with my girlfriends as well as my husband with some of my extra time; we went to Italy for three weeks just the two of us; I went back to school for a certificate in Medical Assisting.  We actually get along better and have grown closer than ever in our 39 years together. I wouldn't jump back into full time work so soon. You may find that you enjoy some of that "alone" time.  We have spent so many years taking care of others and now it is time to think about what YOU want to do...and do it.  Enjoy!  ConnSu
