Day 1 of no porn/mas

I did not make it through my first day.  I passed the first few impulses but ultimately caved.

I had fought an impulse about 20 minutes before and was just getting "in the zone" with work.  A stray thought suddenly overwhelmed me with an urge to break my commitment.  I felt like I could not think of anything else. As soon as I started to flirt with the temptation, I did not feel like I could go back to working without finishing what I started.  I convinced myself that the persistent temptation would be a distraction that would seriously affect my productivity.

It has been a while since I tried to stop and I am surprised by how difficult this challenge has been for me at day one.  I am confident that I can avoid anymore breakdowns for the rest of the day, but tomorrow is another story.

My habit is often stress induced.  I will be starting a graduate program in fall - so I am really hoping to learn ways to control myself before then.  Once school begins I am afraid that I will become even more dependent on my addiction.

I will start anew tomorrow.

Rub Out that road block to success!

Good luck! Takes a lot to face it and try to do something. Be strong! Follow the tools program and begin getting a few days under your belt.  The coach teaches ways to build good habits and help face down bad habits. He explains in some of the lessons how the brain develops pathways that neurons travel on and it gets used to it, and in order to break a habit you have to consciously fight that pathway that it usually takes and build a new pathway.   Just by doing tools daily, it builds a good habit and your brain begins to acknowledge a growing will power and helps you along.

you can do it!

Don't fight it!

It's clear in your post how motivated you are in getting rid of this habit.

My advice is - don't try to fight it, try to think of something else instead. Maybe take a short walk or do some small work in the house for a couple of minutes, just to get rid of this urge.

You've already made the first step, you're already aware of what's going on, which is usually the most difficult part. So keep on giving your best shot!

You can do it!

Thanks

I am really glad I ended up coming back to this forum.  It really helps to hear your ideas and words of encouragement.  I have always tried working at this alone, and I think the community involvement will go a long way for me.  Finger, thanks for sending me the challenge invite and getting me to think more about my rabbits.

Tomorrow will be a fresh start!
