I am a 30 year old woman who is in the midst of many life changes, and I would like to learn to take as much control over my destiny as I can, because I've come to realize that I'm the person most likely to bring about those changes that I want, and right now is the perfect time.

I got married in February of 2007 to the man I've been dating for four years. (We never stopped dating!)  We got married in Panera Bread - if you want to know more I'll tell you our interesting and fun story!  My husband and I have four kids together; three from his previous marriage and one from mine.  Their ages are 9, 8, 7, and 6.  Yes, we're busy on the weekends when we have them all here, and that's why we like to take vacations and party with our friends on the weekends when they are not!

I am an English major at a local university and I have one semester left.  I'll be graduating in December and then I'll get to go into the REAL world and earn a living.  I'm excited to graduate after all this time; I took time off to be a stay-at-home-mom when my son was born and I went back to school when he was five.  I haven't been in the workforce since he was born, and so it's nervewracking thinking that I have to go back out there and be an employee somewhere again.  I've been really independent as a mother and a student for these past years, but it's time for me to earn some money so my husband and I can buy the large home we need to house our big family!

I joined TOOLS because:
I just happened to see the link to it on Spark People when I was doing my work on there, and since that site has helped me out so much, I figured that joining another site with similar type methods and support systems might help me tune up some other aspects of my life that need work. I really am ready to make some changes in many corners of my life, and I want to be prepared to work hard and reap the benefits. There are some big changes that lie ahead and I'm feeling afraid right now.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
This is tough; my dream job would keep changing so that I would never get bored or feel like I was stuck in a rut. It would have to involve my brain AND my body. Since I'm getting my English degree, I probably will spend a lot of time in front of a desk, typing, or writing. This is entertaining for my brain, but sometimes I dream of having a job that gets me outside doing yard work, or farm work, or something that helps clean up and/rebuild nature. I guess my dream job, then, would be one that paid me enough and left me enough free time so that I could do the outdoors stuff as my recreation!
My favorite wild animal is:
The timberwolf - like my tattoo!
Why (describe as much as possible):
The wolf is smart, cunning, brave, social, enduring, misunderstood, beautiful, and necessary. I am particularly fond of the Yellowstone wolf, who was anhilated at one time only to be later reintroduced because his niche was discovered to be more important than previously known. This, to me, is a symbol for all of the animals, plants, and insects that are destroyed without a thought or care and later found to be vital to the earth's ecosystem. I'm an environmentalist at heart, even though I am a gun loving republican. I believe in both, and that there is a balance to be found. The wolf's plight continues today, and there are problems and good arguments from all sides of the issues. I have a tattoo of a timberwolf on my arm, and people ask me all the time what it means. The above explanation is really the short answer.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
The cow, followed by the rat.
Why:
The cow has always had a place in my heart! As a child growing up in Minnesota, we lived amongst cattle farms. I have never been able to pass a field of cattle without announcing the presence of the animals to my fellow travelling companions. Me: Look! Cows! This gets a raised eyebrow from most people, especially after the third time or so, when we're on a long road trip. I like cows because they are tame and pretty predictable, they crave a schedule and respond to order. They are both cute and beastly. They can give us milk for our various dairy products, including the famously delicious ice cream. They ask for little, yet for humans, their bodies can become food, clothing, shelter, and more. The rat, my second favorite choice, shares the loyalty and intelligence of the common dog, yet rarely gets credit for this! I had a rat when I was young; it was my first real pet. This rat was so tame and loyal that I could take him outside and let him run around freely on the grass of the front yard, and I could recline in the sun while he did so, and when I called him back to me after several minutes had elapsed I would find that he had ventured no more than a few yards away and he always returned promptly. He could get out of his cage whenever he chose, because he figured out the latch, but he rarely chose to do so, and when he did I'd usually find him under the couch, safe and sound.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
Tiramisu, escargot, sushi, tuna steak, and pasta with alfredo sauces and braised vegetables!
Why:
It would be really nice to have, all at once, these dishes from various corners of the globe, and without the effort of having to make them myself!
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Joan Rene LeClair Long (Mom), Elvis Presley, Jim Carrey, Condi Rice, Hillary Clinton.
Why:
Joan died just after my 6th birthday, and I'd like to see what she thinks about how my life has gone so far. Elvis was Mom's favorite and one of mine, too, and since he is famous for being unique and finding success by being different from anyone else, and breaking rules to do it, I'd hope for some influence on me! Jim Carrey, who is hilarious, would liven up the party. He also is an example of a person who found success by being different and just by following his heart. He promised himself he'd be rich and famous someday, and he set a timetable for it. He succeeded. Condi Rice and Hillary would be interesting, especially together, because they are women in a mostly male dominated field, and this means that they have done something special and different and they have done it well. I would be interested in their political views and their explanations, but mostly I would just like to see them in a non-political situation, relaxing a bit and being themselves, and I would try to find out what spark they have that burns so hot.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
to Paris, France. I've got some friends who live there and I promised that I'd actually go and visit them someday. I want "someday" to really be SOME REAL DAY. I'd love to eat and drink the Parisian food and wine, and try new things. I'd like to visit the tourist stuff, but mostly I'd like to visit the non-touristy stuff and see the real gems that only the locals know about. I've never been to Europe or overseas.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
on a really fluffy crust, smothered with rich mozzarella cheese and sprinkled with parmasean, dotted with ham, onions, mushrooms, and pineapples, spiked with a couple of black olives, and dripping with garlic flavored, rich tomato sauce.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
Long Island Iced Tea if I want to get drunk. Miller Lite if I'm looking for cheap beer. Reisling if I want to enjoy the wine while still getting a good buzz fast. And...whatever's on special. :)
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
I don't do coffee shops. But if I am at home I drink black coffee. For a real treat my coffee is flavored with those special Coffee Mate flavored creamers and some sweeteners, and for a REAL treat my coffee comes with Kaluha, Godiva, or Irish Cream.
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
A checking account that always had enough money in it for me to write a check covering whatever purchase I wanted. So, if I wanted $250 worth of groceries, there would be $250 in there. And then, later that day if I wanted to buy a $250,000 house, there would be $250,000 in there. And so on. A appetite shut-off pill that I could take whenever I felt like I was going to fail to resist temptation for foods that I know I should avoid. I'd only take it before dinner parties, buffets, etc! Perfect harmony between me and every member of my family, in-law family, ex-in-law family, and step-family.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
I'd buy some really popular books on CD that I'd normally never have time to read!
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
I'd build smoothe new sidewalks all the way around the block, and I'd have each homeowner come out and care for his/her section so we'd all be out working together and meeting one another.
A sunset I remember:
I remember a sunset on the Mississippi river, last summer, shared with my husband and two friends of ours. Besides the beautiful view, full of oranges, reds, pinks, blues and smears of other colors across the sky and reflected in the water, the weather and the company were beautiful. We sat on a sandbar and built a huge bonfire and had wine while the dogs played in the sand and on the shore, and we stayed up late and talked and laughed.
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
 This is a stupid question!
Why:
I want to be ME, of course.
