the mind game

i've started to use one of the brain retraining techniques while out climbing. mostly, it goes like this: during the hike in, there's a sketch part that would be less frightening if i had a rope tied to me, but that's just not going to happen. after all, this is just the approach to the climbing area. rather than get all wrapped up in hating the dicey part and freaking out about it, i say out loud "i love this part of the approach!". and i try to mean it. and the fear goes away. and the girl coming down after me repeats this phrase. it's pretty cool.

i'm going to try using it while actually on climbs this weekend. no funky approach.
