do nothing as usual

i've taken the recommendation to heart.

1. stopped going to cafes to sit for hours in front of my computer. as magical as the cafe culture is, i was also finding it stunting. unfortunately, that's meant only minimal internet access from my phone.

2. i had a meeting with a headhunter and a job interview this week. i tried the recommendation of the TTL weekly from Brenda Griffin - to focus on the hiring company's needs. i'm fortunate to have never had problems with interviews, but it was interesting to go into the process with a focused approach. i ended up removing myself from the process because the compensation just didn't match my expertise, but it was great getting out there again. now i've just got to start the whole dating thing... (today's surf inspiration!!!)

3. i'm meeting next week to find out about volunteer opportunities with a group focusing on under-served girls in my community. i'm very excited about this. this is a part of my plan to settle down in one place for more than three months. definitely unusual.

4 . i've fallen back into having troubles getting out of bed and will focus on remedying this over the weekend. this isn't part of the unusual.

5. i've been super focused on adding fat-burning cardio to my climbing training routine. and have just figured out the cause of some funky nerve stuff in my left arm/hand and have a plan to address it. swimming. i have water issues. but i bought a swimsuit, went to the Y and swam last weekend. spent most of my time dealing with the anxiety of being in the water, but worked out the backstroke with help from a lifeguard and am researching options of the best location for swimming 4-5 times a week. walking and specific forms of weight lifting are also on the list and i'm addressing those, too. it's monsoon season in the southwest so evening walks are a treat.

6. not logging into TTL has been a part of the unusual (part of avoiding the cafe culture and wireless that goes with it). it's a trade for not advancing in the program, but has also allowed me to further solidify my new skills.

7. i've completely updated my wardrobe. i do all of my clothing shopping at second-hand stores (for both financial and ecological reasons) and managed a great summer wardrobe for what most would spend on two tops. i decided to move away from the daily climber-dirtbag look and onto a look that suits my search for employment and (yikes) a start to dating.  not that climber-dirtbag doesn't go over well in my dating circle, but...

--- that's a photo of a night-blooming cactus that surprised me in my front yard last week. i sat and watched it open over the span of about two hours.
