giving it a try again

back 25 years ago when i was a gymnast, i was taught to visualize myself doing moves and entire routines. i wasn't such a successful gymnast - too tall and never figured out how to put the fear aside. i don't think my success or failure with using visualizing as a tool had anything to do with it, but i've not put much trust in the method. so, for the past 15 years, i've been climbing without using visualization as a technique. and now i'm at the point where i'm getting older, have reached a fitness plateau, and want to climb a full number grade harder. i need to add a trick or two to make this happe

i worked a route twice this past weekend and have the moves memorize. i've been practicing them over in my head. visualizing them. and a guy was there and took photos of me doing the whole route. i have photos of me using each of the holds as i went along!

but this is the most pure form of visualization, isn't it? i mean, using it as an athlete. the trick will be to integrate it into other areas where i'd like to see change.

also, i don't find that visualization works for things like presentations and running meetings. i find it best to be well prepared and wing it.
