decisions

What kind of processes do you use for making decisions?

Here's my current decision: I really want to settle down in one place for two months. It's tough to find an affordable, safe, and  month-to-month place. I've found one that's not affordable. I've justified the price because I'll only be there for two months. What are the other ways to approach this decision?

What do you think? Does each situation merit a separate way to make a decision or can a basic principal be applied to all decisions?

Good points all around.

Yeah, I haven't lost any sleep over the move decision and came to basically the same conclusion.

I often waste a lot of time and energy on the small decisions. I suspect it's to keep my mind off the big ones!

Which always wraps around to my ever-present fear of commitment.

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

This is a great question - a lot of people, including me, have often been so overwhelmed by making a decision that they make non-decisions - ie do nothing!

For most people who struggle with a decision I believe they already know in their gut what the answer is. Sometimes the decision making gets cloudy because we lack confidence or question if we can do it, or even on a more sub-conscious level, if we deserve it.

If I can't make up my mind about something, I gnash my teeth and lose sleep, and eventually the answer presents itself to me: and it's always what my gut told me I would end up doing all along......Smile

I think that big decisions like moving, can be hard because we all like to nest somewhere. These are the kinds of things I ask myself when I make big life decisions.

1. Will it make me happier?

2. Am I being impulsive? Have I given it enough thought?

3. If I do this, in 10 years when I look back, is this something I will be proud I did, or ashamed I did?

4. Am I hurting anyone else if I do this?

I hope that helps. And in regards to your moving - hey, it's 2 months. I gave up compromising on the quality of where I lived to save $20 a looooong time ago. If you like the place, move in. 8 weeks living somewhere lovely sounds like a nice experience to me.
