Happiness is a Choice

I borrowed this book from the library because of a friend who has an autistic son. The author, Barry Neil Kaufman, published this book in 1991. Kaufman and his wife did amazing healling work with their son nurturing and loving him from a mute, functinally retarted child to a highly verbal young man with a near genuis IQ.

Kaufman and his wife run a center called the Option Institute in Massachusetts to help other families with children with disabilities.

In this book Kaufman shares his wisdom and love that produced these amazing results with his son and others they've worked with at the Institute. It's a step by step journey of self-acceptance.  He shares that the potential for happiness is inside each of us.

He says we came into this world fully equipped to be happy and were then systematically taught to be unhappy. Now we can create opportunities to choose differently. We can live the dream of happiness and love, instead of just dreaming about it.

This is a book to cherish and share, a book that has ignited the healing process in me. It was just a few days after I started reading this book that Tools for Life showed up for me. This tells me I'm ready for this journey -- because the teachers are showing up!
