Do people really change?

Hi everyone! How are you all?

I am writing about an experience which I had recently, it was a high school reunion a couple of weeks back . It was great meeting old school friends in a nice place. Overall a nice experience but there was one thing which disturbed me....

All my school mates WERE STILL THE SAME.

The ranks haven't changed at all, what I mean to say is that the smart guys in school are the ones with better jobs and a better education and the not so smart ones are barely making through . The ones which we knew would make something of their life have made it and the others are the same....some couldnt get too college, some dropped outand working in mundane semi-skilled jobs.

Another thing was that even the physical attributes and the behaviors haven't changed....the obese ones are still obese, the shy ones are still shy and negative ones have degraded even more.

This made me think that do people really change?

I look back at my life and see the same mistakes and habit patterns ... I know thats insanity but still whenever I try to break free of that after some success I slip back into old habits.

I get the feeling that we are hardwired and beyond a limit there is nothing we can do.

I have read a lot of books and articles , and now the statements...you can do anything you want..... and the ones about believing in yourself seem so empty.

So,  do people really change for good?

p.s.  1. I am sorry for spoiling the usual upbeat mood here.

2. No prizes for guessing what the picture is.

This excerpt from your blog... this is an example of what we say to ourselves that makes change so difficult. The self-programming we constantly input through self-talk and negative memories relived again and again.

You have not spoiled the mood either LOL Tools is a community with the underlying principle of helping others on their journey to a life that they create. Reaching out is not only OK but encouraged.

On belief I really like to use the "placebo effect" as an example (the most powerful in medicine). When people believe that they are going to get better alot of them do get measurable better on nothing other than their belief. There is a really great example in "Morris Goodman" aka "the Miracle Man" www.morrisgoodman.org

worth a look amazing story of belief!

Thought are things and they do have power. Everything man has made in this crazy world came from a thought (even if that thought came in a dream format LOL).

I am still on my journey and wish you continued improvement and results in yours.

I have had the opportunity to reply to your blog 2 times prior to this one. Could not post through the miracle of technological incongruencies though LOL

YOU are worth it, hope it helped!

Thanks

It was really nice of you to take time and write such a wonderful comment.

I really need to change my outlook.
