The Surface

Sometimes we do not look far enough into a person and we miss the magic of who they are. At first glance I am 5'5", with long curly auburn hair and hazel eyes, about 213, and usually sporting a smile. At 31, I have experienced some incredibly difficult times, but I have survived. Though painful, these are the events I am most grateful for. To all my relations, thank you for the lessons.

the Surroundings...

Sometimes we see in each other, what we can not seem to find in ourselves. I am eternally grateful to have in my life a friend who is both sister and mother... maske even. We have helped each other remember our strengths during our darkest moments, and we have shared our greatest joys. She has helped me to learn that it is ok to be afraid and to cry, but that we must not allow that fear to control us... those tears to drown us. We must let them go so that we can love freely and live freely. We must accept our sufferings, our losses, and our lessons, so that we are able to be open and honest with those who need us, regardless of who they are, or what their relationship to us is. It was a perfect stranger that looked me in the eyes and told me "Good things will come soon." To all my relations, thank you for the laughter and the tears.

and Beyond.

It truly is the journey that matters. Share your stories and remember you are not alone. Be good to yourself, to your environment, to your elders and your children, and to strangers... you never know when you will need them. Sometimes we get so caught up in life that we forget what is really important. Our lives are measured in minutes and dollars. Do we want to be remembered this way? I know that I do not. I work two jobs, go to school, and still find time for reflection, crafts, poetry, books, nature, and friends. People ask me how I do it. The answer is simple... I make a conscious effort to remember what is truly important in life. Smiles are free, and sometimes, that's all it takes to make a world of difference. To all my relations, thank you for this life.

all questions»

I took a huge risk and landed a wonderful job doing exactly what I want to be doing. The love of my life is 100% supportive and will stand by me no matter what, even though we both know that it will be a challenge living 4 hours apart for a while. Everyone in my life that is close to me, and even some who aren't, have commented on the changes they have seen over the last year.  So, the question remains... when my parents say, "Is it worth it?" and "You have to finish something."... why does that leave me feeling like I'm standing on the edge of a cliff waiting to jump off into a huge tailspin?

Most popular answers

says: You ARE standing on the edge of something, but it is not a cliff. It is an opening to new opportunities and challenges. To have a job you love and to be with a person you love, even in difficult or different circumstances, are two of the greatest gifts you can have. It is worth it. And you are worth it.

What is your answer?

I joined TOOLS because:
I'm working at improving all aspects of my "wellness" so it just seemed to fit.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
 I'm not really sure yet.
My favorite wild animal is:
Toss up between a dolphin and a ladybug.
Why (describe as much as possible):
Dolphins are smart, strong, and loyal. Ladybugs are free spirited.
Why:
I love animals, so picking a favorite is difficult.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
Some sort of super spicy sushi!
Why:
I love sushi and I love the "hot stuff".
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Mother Teresa, Ghandi, Robin Williams, Neale Donald Walsch, and Don Miguel Ruiz.
Why:
Mother Teresa and Ghandi... to sit in the presence of true passion and resolution to ideals. Neale Donald Walsch... to see if he really is having a "conversation with God". Don Miguel Ruiz... to thank him for the "4 agreements". Robin Williams... to keep it all in perspective and add a little humor!
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
 Home.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
Thin crust, lots of feta cheese, white sauce, spinach, chicken, and artichoke hearts.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 Extra spicy vodka and clam.
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
 Drinking chocolate...
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
Wishes suggest we don't have what we need... and will never get it. I'm just trying to figure out how to make the best of what I've been given.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
The Muppet Show (for the Mahna-Mahna), Tanita Tikaram (for the spirit), and Nedra Johnson (to "bless this holy love").
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
I'm actually working at it right now... trying to develop a culturally centered place for women to go as they re-enter society.
A sunset I remember:
June or July 2004... I had been put out to fast and it was my last night. The sunset was incredible and with it came the understanding that it was time to truly change my life. I knew where I needed to go and what I needed to begin to do.
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
 Yoda from Star Wars.
Why:
Hmmm... may the Force be with you.
