Saying 'hello' and 'thank you'

I have noticed how rude people can be these days.  I have seen people walk up to an associate at Home Depot, and just blurt out 'paint?'.  I think this is very rude.  This is a person you are talking to, not a Google search box.  People have become so accustomed to typing a few words into Google and getting answers out of them, but that is not how you should talk to people.

At Home Depot, Starbucks, or any other store I go to, I always greet the associate with a smile and say hello.  Next, instead of saying "Gimme a latte", I will say "May I please have a latte?"  I guess my mother just raised me to have manners.

Like Coach Steele said today, he always gets a table at a crowded restaurant because he projects a positive energy on the person he is talking to.  I tend to do the same thing, smiling and being polite, and it is surprising what kind of impact it can have on things.

true dat!

i do that at the gym alot. the girl behind the counter is actually kinda numb to people just throwing their passes at her for her to scan. i always try to greet her with a smile and a hello. often times, a smile and polite greeting catches people off guard in a good way. id say 9 out of 10 times, it leaves that person in a better mood.

keep it up dude!

I"m so on board with this train!

I know how it hurts me sometimes when I try to be friendsly with someona and they numb out as yami said. I'm thinking... I'm talking to you and looking at you, can't you do the same?

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves AND each other. Thanks you dude!!!

I do the same thing.

I agree it really can make someone's day just to have someone acknowlege that they even exist.  What a concept that people can pull their head out of their ass long enough to realize that the world doesn't revolve around them.  We are creating that change and great job to you for being one of them!

I feel ya

Dude, I see that constantly.  It's like people don't have any respect these days.  Some people just weren't raised right, very true.  I actually had an experience at costco where the employee was rude to me!!  They had my membership all screwed up and all I did was went to customer service and asked where my 2% check was, politely, and this chick was arguing a point that she was incorrect about then tried to send me on my way with," There's nothing I can do for you."  Long story but they owed me $$ and terminated my membership without any notice( claimed to have an incorrect address.  But I used my license to sign up and I get their coupons every month!??) and she tried to turn me away without a check or a membership.   Turns out her manager whom I talked to said she is a problem employee and was on the verge of getting fired.  Needless to say I left there with a new membership. They miscalculated my refund so I will be getting a bigger one now.
