Day 3 - no morning news

Coach Steele had a shocker for me today: I am not supposed to listen to or read the morning news for the first hour of my day!

I have a 40 minute commute and a Sirius radio, which I typically listen to Mike & Mike in the morning.

Granted, it is a sports show, does that qualify as morning news?

I do not listen to the 'hard news' on the drive in, but when I get to the office I will pull up the Denver Post Online and read the headlines.

I think I can do away with reading the headlines until lunchtime.  The problem is that work is slow and I get bored.  I can either stare at the wall, or read the news.

What should I do when bored at work, to avoid reading the news or surfing the web until lunchtime?

I didnt like that one. I'm willing to do what this program says for the most part, but there are going to be things that for me just don't work. I wake up and want to know what's going on in the world so I can try to affect it. If I don't like what Congress is doing I call my congressman. I check my stocks. I check some websites about cars, gadgets, and design.

I don't see how making myself ignorant and uninformed is going to make things better for me or anyone else.

Hold up on Last comment!!

No offence on last comment but I have to guess that they may not be a sports fan.... bc SERIOUSLY I cried when after 163 games and a buncho extra innings the tigs didn't make the playoffs this year.... and then MAJOR depressing news when I heard BSox were knocked out of the playoffs (I missed that game) So really, if its bad news about ur team that could TOTALLY set off ur day!!

Just saying.... :)

says: I think sports news should be ok, I think the idea is to not expose yourself to depressing news, like stuff about the war or people dying in accidents.  If you enjoy the sports show I wouldn't change listening to it.

says: ya theres an idea with the comedy show! and correct! please dont read and drive bad idea. Or cds/ipod tunes its only an hour.... :)

says: I had read something about laughing as being a great medicine or helping one's overall health...you've got sirius so put on one of the comedy stations and start your day of laughing.  Maybe then you can pass on some jokes to coworkers and make them smile and laugh adding to their day...

Oops, I guess I should have been specific about how I commute.  I drive, so reading a magazine or doing online banking would not be very safe! Surprised

I am thinking about starting to take the bus, however it is both more expensive, and takes more time to do than drive in.  I actually kind of enjoy driving, especially early in the morning when no one is on the road.

says:

can u do tools in the morning at work??

that would be a wicked substitution!

or...

I was gonna suggest a mag...like SI? guessing if u listen to sports radio you'll get the abbriviation.... let ur self read like 2 pages or whatever every morning to pass the time should last ya at least the 5 day work week!

or I think something that makes YOU feel good for that hour...like helping others or yourself - make urself a budget (i see ur trying to pay off ur bills) do some online banking... whatever its only the first hour u have to kill right? AND the good news is the commute takes almost half of it up!

NOTIFY EVERYONE UR COMMUTE JUST HELPED UR LIFE! BAHAHAHA
