Swords

I'm writing an adventure book, you know the kind with swords, no electricity, life as we don't know it.  So, i've been doing a bunch of research to learn how these folks lived waaaay back then, and learning all about swords.  pretty neat stuff, too.  i'm really enjoying it,and i'm reading about Robin Hood right now (since one of my characters is a great archer).

it's fun learning about life long ago and how we have (and have not) changed.  as i've been doing this, i've been learning a lot about history and it's a great thing, and a very new thing for me, since i always hated it as a kid.  however, i'm learning that some of the challenges we have today are similar to the challenges of yesterday.  yes, history really does repeat itself.

I too have never understood why we get taught history - still don't.  I think it is one of those things better explored as adults - when you really have the passion for it.  Mind you, I've always loved exploring history, just not at school (like how to turn something really interesting into the drabbest thing since sliced bread!)

Even now as a grown up I often daydream about what it would be like to live back in those times (those times being anything before the 1970s right back to caveman times).
