What am I doing wrong?

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I say to my husband that we can't afford to put anything on the Visa or take money out of the line of credit, he keeps doing it!    All I want to do right now is sell every piece of jewellery I own and anything that is of value to get out of debt and every month he hides his line of credit statement from me (except yesterday I managed to get to the mail before him).  How can I get him to understand that we may end up losing our house if we don't get out of debt???  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Together Maybe We Can Find The Answer

My husband does the same thing.  His business is not making any money and he believes he deserves things that we cannot afford.  So he charges them and we are in debt.  Throughout the year I had $$ taken out of every check and put into an account I couldn't touch until Christmas.  I told him I was going to charge a certain amount, but that on 12/15 I would put that money into our bank account and we would pay it off in full.  Not only did he not pay it off at all he took that money and bought presents for me and my daughter.  WTH!!!  So now I have a credit card that I'm paying interest on and I apparently bought myself Christmas presents I didn't need.  It's a problem.  I'm trying to get him to go to counseling.  We have to go to counseling or this will just continue.  I never thought I would divorce over money, but I CAN'T be in debt my entire life either.  Perhaps together we can come up with the answer -- Hang in there!

My plan for next year (or sooner) is to open a separate account just for me so that THIS doesn't happen again.  I'm not going to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results -- I believe that's call insanity.  :)

My husband does the same thing.

I did open a separate account and he was mad about itso I closed it than I opened one again and he complained, but I ignored him this time.

He still takes out a loit of cash from his account that he can;t account for. When his over drawn he runs to get a new loan.I told him I'm not signing anything any more.Don't know what todo

If some one has ideas I'm willing to listen.

thank you for responding

I don't know what the answer is.  I have racked my brain and can't figure it out.  I told him we have two years to get this debt down or we will not be able to renew our mortgage.  He took out almost 2,000 from his line of credit for "christmas presents" in December but everything I can see that he bought was put on the Visa.  So where did the money go?  He gave me his credit card but who knows if he has another one????  I have a separate account already and the one he uses is a joint one so I can see the transactions.  I have to take money out of his account when he gets paid so I know that bills will be paid by ME.  Even when he says he will handle a bill, he doesn't and then when it gets desperate he turns around and pays the bill from his line of credit.  When will it end?  When we get a divorce??  Thanks for responding, I do really appreciate hearing that I'm not the only one this happens to!!!!!!
