Profile Picture

The reason I picked this profile picture is that it was taken a few minutes before my kid Steph got on her steer at the local Bullriding event that I help produce on Vancouver Island . It started out that she was the only rider in this event so the Championship buckle for this event was hers whether she made the 8 seconds or not and she had wanted this buckle for a long time. She had tried at least 6 times before to win this buckle over the years. So any way I told her she had to stay on at least 4 seconds before she could win it. As it turned out she made the 4 seconds but when she landed on the ground she hit hard and  laid there I rushed over to her and and found her saying that she could not feel her arm (oh no) the paramedic joined us there in the middle of the arena to treat her all the while she is in a lot of pain. As the paramedic who is a good friend of the family is splinting her arm asks if the gold champion buckle was worth it she looks up and says " Hell ya " then looks at me and asks " Did I make the 4 seconds?"all the while never complaining about the pain. Now in what was a family moment her as mother and sister joined us was that despite the pain and the concern that we had about her ,she was beaming and you could see the pride she had in herself. This coming from a child who at times, as all children seemed to do, is whine and complain at the drop of a hat about nothing . This puzzling state of mind for her continued even when she got back from the Hospital and still to this day. I never realized till then how proud of her I was and how much I love her and how much she is becoming a mature young lady. Out of  what was a bad situation she had shown me that it was possible to reach a goal and take pride  in what she did no matter how she got there and that when you do get there the enjoyment will over ride any pain.
