I Am Not Disabled

I am not "Disabled". I am handicapped. What is the difference you may ask? A handicapped person is someone who is physically (or possibly mentally or emotionally) limited. In my case I am physically limited because I have spinal arthritis. This means that I can barely stand or walk and that my body is twisted out of shape and that I suffer from a high degree of pain.

However I do not consider myself to be disabled. To me a disabled person is someone who is completely helpless. I may be physically limited with regard to what the "average" person can do, but my brain still works just fine. If you think about it all of us are handicapped when compared to certain others. That "average" person that I get compared to would themselves  be considered to be handicapped if they were compared to an Olympic athlete.

My point is that we all have limitations. The important thing to remember is that we should be judged by what we can do, not by what we can not  do. I am able to write (both fiction and non-fiction) , I can draw and paint, though slowly because of the limited use of my hands, I am able to research a large number of subjects and am constantly learning new things in the areas of computers, history, philosophy, theology, general science and many other fields. What I apparently cannot do is come up with a way to make a little bit of money while staying at home. Because I require homecare  all but seventy dollars of my disability money goes to my care providers , which in fairness they earn. Half of my seventy dollars goes towards paying for my ISP which I need to keep in contact with the outside world. That doesn't leave much for amusing myself or buying the little things that make life worthwhile(like, say, a printer for my laptop). If anyone out there has some little chore that I can do for them I would be most appreciative. I am not asking for pity or charity so please don't send any my way. I merely wish to make a little extra money and do something with my time so that I can feel useful and ease my boredom. Anyone have any bright ideas?
