I have a fairly strong computer background but I'm not an IT guru so I could benefit from calling an expert from time to time but for me, I'm just too tight to pay someone unless I just cant find the answer in a forum somewhere and its a very serious problem. Over the years I've learned not to expect everything to work all the time so most problems really don't bother me. I've been using Mac exclusively for the past 8 years and my computer problems are few and far between and so far I've been able to solve them myself using the Internet.
