Our only major problem is the destruction of the rain forest by the illegal drug producers

The impact of removing so much dense forest conditions is exponentially worse than anything else we are doing on earth

All other negative actions can be addressed by every man, woman and child on the planet planting a tree each

We each impact on the environment by differing amounts, depending on where and how we live - our location will sustain differing types of tree for each type of climate zone and if everyone were to plant and nurture a tree to full growth - we could address the current fears of an imbalance with carbon neutral conditions within 2-3 decades

Ancient civilizations had open fires all over the place - the fuel was what they had locally, it is important to be aware that we have become more efficient in production and less wasteful in manufacture than any society before us

As a society though - we have become more wasteful - due to the efficiency of modern manufacture we are less likely to fix something that is broken - and more likely to throw it away - bring back the local artisan

Our major problems are the illegal drug producers - and that is a fact - they are efficient in their destruction of rainforest, efficient in the rapid growth of the drugs, efficient in their harvesting and reckless in their destruction of the environment

If you remove trees and replace them with plants that have shallow root systems - then the soil can be easily washed away and the ground soon becomes waste and they move on - think of the massive impact and problems of the large grain production states and the dustbowl effect due to removing all the hedges and trees to create the wide open plains for combined harvesting

Think of the dessertification that is happening, also due to the removal of trees that used to bind the soil together and retain ground water - plant trees folks - they are the best and most efficient method of combatting the current imbalance - oh! and lock up the illegal drug growers and throw away the key.

The market is the problem.

I agree. A bigger problem than the drug producers is the market that encourages and sustains this by buying their product. Dealers merely supply a market and by creating a major disincentive to purchase, forest elimination would quickly cease.

Perhaps those that purchase/deal drugs and are caught should at the very least be made to plant forests rather than rot in prison. That way everyone benefits: they have a sense of accomplishment by creating something beneficial to all plus they'll get healthier with all that fresh air and exercise.
