When I turned 25 I realized that life had not turned out the way I had expected it to. I had a career, a great girlfriend, a nice apartment, and had moved to Chicago but something was still missing.

As the days passed I realized that each day was feeling drearier than the one before it. I remember having outlets for this dreariness in Santa Barbara (mainly surfing and water polo) but I couldn't do those things as often in Chicago.

My perspective changed when my girlfriend's younger brother was killed in Afghanistan in August. He was only 20 and would not get the chance to do a lot of the things he really wanted to in life. It was then that I decided that I would reach for my career and life goals.

Life is too short and I don't want to spend my time here on Earth doing a job I don't enjoy and waking up in a bad mood. It's not good for me or for the people that have to deal with me.

Time for a change.

I joined TOOLS because:
Although I have a good job, a great girlfriend, and I live in an awesome city - I am not always happy. I am 25 now and I have not made the advances towards the life I really want yet. I had goals set for myself by this age but have not fullfilled all of them yet.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
Writing. I would really like to be a great writer someday. I have been working on a couple of screenplays for the past year and change, but I have yet to finish any of them.
My favorite wild animal is:
 The Plesiosaur.
Why (describe as much as possible):
I saw Jurassic Park when I was eight years old and have had an interest in dinosaurs ever since. The plesiosaur was the first real fossil I had ever seen. I enjoyed dinosaurs so much that I eventually got my degree in Geology with an emphasis in Paleobiology. I am glad I did it.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
 Golden Retriever.
Why:
My family has owned several dogs while I was growing up, but my favorite was our golden retriever. They are much more intelligent than most dogs and are about as equally playful. The one we owned had learned to open the refrigerator and certain doors around the house. It could be frustrating at times but also very funny.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
I would like a well prepared steak.
Why:
My girlfriend decided to become a vegetarian a few months ago and so I try not to have steak or anything more than chicken or fish in the house out of respect for her. I do though, still crave a well prepared steak every once and awhile.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
George Washington, Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, John Hughes, and Jane Austen.
Why:
 G. Washington - One of the most important people in US history. I would love to know why he turned down the offer to be the first US King and chose to be first US President instead. W. Disney - An extremely influential entertainer. The man changed to the world of animation and film as we know it. H. Hughes - Took a family fortune and became the most innovative man in the history of aeronautics and then subsequently fell in to madness. J. Hughes - Wrote some of the funniest movies in cinema and completely defined a generation of film makers in the 80s. J. Austen - Arguably the most accomplished female author of all-time. Managed to write books which are still relevant and popular today.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
Costa Rica - surfing, natural beauty, and Andean culture. Wow.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
Pepperoni from Panino's. Simple and tasty.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
Beer. Just plain and simple beer.
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
I order a venti coffee, though my goal is to quit and switch to tea in the near future.
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
Happiness for my family for the rest of their lives (financial, health, and contentment), the ability to help more people (vague, I know), and the chance to be happy myself.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
"Led Zeppelin" by Led Zeppelin, "Legend" by Bob Marley and the Whalers, "So...How's Your Girlfriend" by Handsome Boy Modeling School.
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
Invite the homeless folks in for dinner - it's cold out today.
A sunset I remember:
July 4th, 2008. My girlfriend and I watched it from a picnic table at the Santa Barbara beach just before the fireworks started.
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
 Shane Falco from "The Replacements".
Why:
Although not many people appreciate (or even saw) the movie, it was much better than it should have been. Shane Falco is a former college football QB star that got beaten badly in his final college game. He was never able to emotionally recover and spent the next few years working as a barnacle remover at a shipyard. He ultimately gets a second chance at greatness only to learn that its not about being great at football, but rather getting up when you've been knocked down.
