Two part lesson learned today

This morning my blog entry was about how I felt like I'd missed some steps on my checklist the past couple of days. I still think that is true. However, one of the biggest ones that I thought I'd missed was the 2-10 minute cleaning/straightening. But today I found myself doing this one almost automatically. I was going to lunch with a co-worker (a special Monday treat) and found myself waiting on her while she finished something up. So I found myself with an couple extra minutes of time. As I opened my purse to pull out my keys I decided to clean out the old receipts and other clutter (two weeks of storytime name tags, extra kid items, etc) while I waited for my friend. As I automatically started doing that I realized that this could count as my checklist item. Then little tasks like this that I had done over the weekend came to mind. So, I did actually complete that part of my checklist over the weekend! I just did it more automatically and so didn't realize it at first! That discovery makes me very happy that I chose NOT to beat myself up for "failing" to complete the entire list.  I didn't let it get me down. So I think today's success story is two fold. 1) I found that some of the TOOLS are becoming more "automatic" and therefore easier. Of course they are already easy and they are not 100% automatic as I stil make a conscious choice to do them. But it's getting easier as they become part of my normal routine.2)  I am learning to not be overly hard on myself when I do not do everything exactly as I plan. I'm learning that it's more productive to look at the mistakes and evaluate why or how they happened so I can move forward in this process and change my thinking patterns to reduce the likelihood of them happening in the future.  Two great lessons learned today.
