The economy is affecting all of us. Im curious to see what others have done and will breifly share what I have done, as well. Perhaps we can all learn from each other?
My financial situation has been declining for some time. So rather than sit and watch it hit bottom, I took a job... any job to slow the degression down.
Then I started schooling to try to offset the degression by placing myself into a better situation. Having finished the schooling, I am starting to look for a new job with at least a little more pay. My goal is to flat line the situation for starters. By that I mean. bring my living standards down to where I can afford the basic neccesities and have a little bit of my payments on credit cards go towards the principal.
In the meantime, I have cut costs. I have turned off tv service, computer service, reduced telephone service, reduced utilitites by trying to remind everyone to turn off lights, use less water, etc.
I currently have a mortgage at 6.25%, my credit cards are 9.9% or less, and Ive gone on foodstamps in an effort to swing my situation around.
I feel stuck. I dont know how to go about getting credit cards reduced. Since my income is so low, I dont know that I will be able to refinance anything. Next I am going to sell my backup vehicle and also increase the number of hours I am working as well as try to take on another parttie job at the least. It seems part-time is all that is available so why not work 2 or 3 of them?!
I feel that I am doing well in spite of it all but the ever nagging bills still scare me and I want to make my situation better. It is up to me to make that happen... however I sure could use some fresh ideas.
Got any?

just had an idea
how about getting together with a couple of your friends who feel the same way and starting a 30-day-month challenge? The goal could be to come up with say, 5 ideas to stay positive & to evaluate money-spending strategies...doesn't matter how smart or how basic.
Just the steps of having a i) positive circle of supportive friends, ii) a steady stream of ideas and iii) initial progress with even small steps will put you all in a good frame of mind to get started on those big financial problems.
So you can start small and see where that does. Just my 2c worth.
