I have close friends who suffer from bipolar disease. The best thing is to have a good support group and learn to recite positive affirmations every day. E.g. There is nothing to fear but fear itself" Also meditating is a very good source of treating depression and negative thoughts.
Keeping a journal is another good way of helping yourself. Write down your feelings each and watch your negative feelings change to positive ones over time. Its O.K. to feel less than happy but it's not O.K. to stay that way all day every day. Start loving yourself and tell yourself that you have many people in your life who loves you.
