I am surrounded by people who have trouble falling asleep, who wake up anxious, who have concerns that crop up during the day that take them off track from what they are doing. These cries from within are not wrong, but they need to be put in their place...dealing with them helps - if anxiety is from not doing something that needs to be done...then doing it - presto, anxiety gone (to be replaced by next thing on the list).
But taking a break from the noise...that can be very empowering (or at the very least refreshing).
I have learned transcendental mediation - it is one of many - equally good ways - of calming the mind for 20 minutes or so, twice daily.
The internet has a number of good guided meditations and free downloads with alpha, beta and other waves that are supposed to enhance the meditative process. Whatevery works for you is fine...but give it a try.
Shutting down the noise for 20 minutes (or 5 or 10 but be consistent every day if you can) a couple of times a day can shore up your efforts to be " on " the rest of the day.
I read something in today's article - " The only way to achieve happiness is through action and purpose that you feel brings value to your day." It can be one little achievement - a child's smile, a clerk's frown changing to a grin as you connect with them as a fellow human being - or giving you mind 20 minutes to have the waves settle down.
Namaste all....

Great Post.
You are so right in that the things that keep us up at night are the same things that trouble us during the day. I have been chipping a piece a day and sleep is becoming more of a friend as of the last few days.
If you have the time would you point out some of the sites that I can find some direction with meditation. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your post. Leo

meditation and energy
I have been doing simple meditation for over two weeks now, sometimes twice a day for 15 minutes. Wonderful. I was afraid of losing my drive but the opposite is true. A clear mind can accomplish much more!
