Well - after almost a week of choking on smoke, a week of asthma, nausea and sinus problems, the smoke has finally cleared out a bit.
For those you that don't know, Last weekend (9 days ago) there was a swift and strong 'dry' lightning storm that swept through Northern California - it lit over 1,000 fires all over the area and although Grass Valley was spared from flames - we were basically surrounded by countless fires just to the South, the East, the North and West - the wind decided to take a short vacation and as I live in the foothills, all the smoke piled up and SAT... and SAT... and SAT... building up within a couple of days to an amount that simulated driving through fog 24 hours a day - smelly, destructive, lung burning fog.
About 570 square miles have burned in 1,420 Northern California blazes
About 19,500 firefighters, 926 helicopters being used to fight blazes.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — More than a thousand wildfires — including a massive, stubborn blaze in the Big Sur region — were burning early Monday in Northern California and there was no relief in sight for weary firefighters. Fire crews inched closer to getting some of the largest of 1,420 blazes surrounded, according to the state Office of Emergency Services. Some 364,600 acres — or almost 570 square miles — have burned.
Of course - they tell us to stay inside and 'avoid' the smoke - but how do you avoid it when it is the only air available to breathe? Even in the house it smells like a Statewide barbeque.
Finally on Friday I drove myself over to Reno to get some relief for my lungs over the weekend - it was so nice to breathe relatively fresh air for a bit. Came back last night and thankfully the wind had picked up yesterday and cleared out most of the worst of it.... there is still a smoky haze hanging about, but I'm not feeling like I'm living in a post-apocalyptic world at the moment.
So now I sit - drinking my coffee - preparing for my day of the gym and then work....
I am participating in a Challenge here at TOOLS to clean out and get rid of stuff - totally empty out and clean and replace only what is necessary.... I am looking forward to really getting into it. I tend to accumulate stuff rather quickly - and although I do 'divest' myself of possessions regularly - I don't like to build up too much junk . . . - there are lots of nooks and crannys that end up being the catch-all for junk and I am happy about getting those areas totally under control and EMPTY of non-necessary items.
So- I am feeling really good in general, relieved in my lungs a bit, and still sticking to both non-smoking (except the occasional forest fire) and the gym.
I am feeling really busy these days with work and having my daughter home with me, shopping for her travel - getting paperwork completed and gathering necessary stuff for her International adventure - cleaning both my space and helping my best friend clear out his space before he is kicked off of his foreclosed property. Lots of stuff needs to be done and I am determined to stay on top of it..... so - signing off for now - getting to the gym.... one moment at a time, one foot in front of the other, JUST KEEP GOING!!!!!
