My 23 year old son called today...he sounded kind of down.  I asked what was wrong; he has just started college, decided that he needs to become more educated and is following through.  He is bipolar and has VERY good days and VERY bad days.  He says that there is nothing really wrong, he is just scootin' along.

I asked him to try waking up in the morning and clapping his hands and saying "I am going to have a great day".  He laughed at me; I said try it. He says, "do you do it?". I admitted that I do not clap but I go into the bathroom and address myself in the mirror and smile and say "I am going to have a great day".  I explained that , while every day is not great, we have the power to make our own day better, the oppotunity to change things.  He chuckled a little more; but, I think that he just may try it. We'll see.  It was nice sharing that little tool with him.  I know that it can work for him, if he lets it...............

Sun Shines Behind the Clouds

I have a 20 yr old son who is on his own that is Bi Polar and Paranoid Schizophrenic.

I have a 15 yr old daughter with Bi Polar and a 12 yr old son with Bi Polar.

The other 2 girls don't have it.

I think of OUR kids like a sunshine. They SHINE so beautiful, warm and bright, then sometimes a storm cloud of their illness acts up and HIDES who they REALLY are INSIDE, making it not as visible or obvious to others.. but WE KNOW that just like when we can't see the sun BEHIND the dark clouds in a storm.. doesnt mean it isn't there.... the clouds are just covering it up right now and even then, the sun or OUR KIDS STILL are the same warm, shining bright souls the entire time because they are NOT THEIR illness... and then time or their medicine or whatever ... helps to blow those clouds away and we can see and feel their AUTHENTIC selves again.

Also I can tell that your son is very blessed to have you as a mom with your love and caring and encouragement.

All the best to your and your loved ones ALL to your highest good ALWAYS.

BIG HUGS
