My Inspiration - Martin

Not talking about myself, but the Saint I am named after.

Martin De Porres, the patron saint of Social Justice, the sick, the poor,  and animals.

These days, I admit I am not a very religious person , I'm more spiritual. But as a little boy I was brought up to revere this saint.

He is also one of the few or maybe the only black or mixed race saint in the catholic church, illegitimate son of a Spanish noblemen and a black free woman in Lima , Peru in 1579. He became a Dominican brother and served the poor. He was made a saint in the early 1960's , just as the Civil Rights movement was gathering pace, and another Martin, Martin Luther King was a key element. Both Martins in their time had to fight for their rights.

I'd never really forgot him, when I was in trouble, a little prayer was fired off to him.

I would read his story, see it here:

to uplift me, so he was always my spirtual advisor, especially when I myself was lost.

The podcast today was on inspiration and thought, and it brought him to mind.

It also made me think, that I could or should be also be my own inspiration, by my thoughts and deeds.

We are what we think, and the battle against negative thinking goes on.

So whoever your inspiration is - be inspired.

Maybe even take a look in the mirror and be inspired by the person you are or are becoming, the character you are building.

Have a great week.

Martin

PS If you live in San Francisco, can you tell ne if the Martin De Porres House of Hospitality on Potrero Avenue is still there, the webpage is a little out of date.
