Go for it!
My advice is be picky about your artist and don't try to find the cheapest one out there! Quality over anything else! I have good ones and bad ones that had to be redone. I never regretted any though. All of mine are symbolic and are reminders to me of my true self!
On design- have fun and take your time putting it together.
People always ask... Did that hurt? So get ready to answer that question alot!
Thanks!
I appreciate your good advice! I have a lot of fat blocks in this prison so I have some time to decide on a perfect design! Maybe Coach Steele would have some ideas? lol
What they least expect!
I can say having over 30hrs of work on me from my ankles to my shoulders, Ambush them with what people would least suspect. Take your time pic a design with meaning to you, the web is full of limitless inspiration. Then take your time and pick an artist that will work with you. Remember good work isnt cheap, and cheap work is never good. Go for it! good luck!

Never Too Old For a Tattoo
If an elephant tattoo would make you happy then I say you should go for it. You've earned happiness and deserve it. I love elephants.
What is "tattoo material" anyway?
You should to whatever your fantastic 52 year old heart and soul desires!!! I have many tattoos, on my throat, a sleeve and a half, on my hands toes, legs and everywhere there is no tattoo there will be. Because like you I have been fascinated by the art as well. Even as a little girl! I was a "nerd" in school, I was in the marching band, jazz band, and Honor Society too! It does not matter what your students or anyone says or thinks. Your tattoo(s) are for YOU! Make your vessel BEAUTIFUL. I have found the process very healing and a great for my self-esteem! I hope you decide to go and get your tattoo dear teacher lady! Good luck and many blessings to you! Oh here is a picture of the lovely Artoria Gibbons to inspire you :)

Go for it
I love tattoos all of mine are personal reminders, I think an elephant would make an awesome tat you can find so much in an elephant, they are beautiful, intellegent, powerful, loyal, protective...I'm sure you get the point. Do tons of research on artists in your area, go look at their work, I have never met an artist that did not have a portfolio
I recently got one...
...to remind me of a special day on Tools that fell on my birthday. That day was about faith in yourself and it was truly a sign that my tattoo was meant to be. It is my personal reminder of what I've been through and what I will never tolerate in my life anymore.
By all means get one. BREAK THE NORMS of what people think of you. some people have laughed at my tattoo, but I don't care, I didn't do it for them. I did it for myself. They can hate and joke as much as they like.
Good luck!
Go for it!!!
I say go for it! Sounds like something fun to do. Perhaps one day I will finally get my jade dragon tattoo myself! By the way, you're NEVER too old and you're young!
Do what your heart tells you
And if that is to get a tattoo then go for it! Both of mine mean so much to me and I still look at them everyday. I do not have any regrets. I agree find an artist you can work with and who's work reflects what you want. Ask them any question you may have and if they are good they will not have a problem answering them. What I like to do is go in with a couple pictures and ask them to draw up what they think will work, they are the artists after all. Don't settle until you are happy. That is so awesome that you are getting one, let us know how it works out! And post the pictures!
Thanks!
Wow, thanks for all of the support! Tattoos is obviously a popular topic with other people as well, I have never had 79 views before of any of my blog posts!!
Elephant Suggestion
Hey Teach,
I was in Borders the other day and thought of you when I saw the cover to a new book.
I can't say anything about it because I didn't buy it, but it has a GREAT silhouette of two elephants on the cover. The title is Nudge, which caught my eye as well.
Check it out. You can see the cover on Borders.com

Rock On!
Thanks Kurt!
I will definitely check that out!
