Thank you very much for your comments! I thought of your advice today BigPitt20 as I was out for a 4 mile walk on an unexpectedly cold day. I was about halfway through and really NOT having a good time until I thought of your advice. I powered through it and thought positive thoughts and wow! I was very proud of myself when I was finished.
Maria579, what a great example! I just have to remember that "Its my fault" is not a bad thing but something I can make an action plan for. Thanks!

It's important to understand the difference between beating yourself up over something and recognizing that the something is getting in your way and you need to make an action plan. Low self-esteem blames and ruminates. The Excuse Tool sets a course of confident action.
Example: my kids are home on spring break and stress me out. i eat an entire chocolate cake to cope.
Low Self Esteem says: "This was all my fault. I'm such a loser. I ruined my whole diet. I'm going to eat like this all spring break because I'm so stressed out. It's really my only escape."
The Excuse Tool says: "This was definitely my fault, but it's not going to happen again. I have confidence that if I come up with an action plan to fight that excuse, I can control it. I'm going to have the teenager down the street come over for an hour every afternoon while I take a walk. This will burn off those calories and give me a break from the stress. I'm calling her right now."
