Finally!

24 hours smoke free. Finally got through all the excuses and took control. I did buy some nicotine gum. 4 pieces yesterday.

Its strange when smoking is such a part of your life:

- When you are stressed

- When you work

- when you hurt

- when you need to think

- when you fear

- when you succeed

- when you fail

- when you have fun

- when you are miserable

Smoking runs through everything like that, at least for me. So its a major change. At times in the last 24 hours, I just don't know what to do with my hands or my thoughts, when I can't pick up a cancer stick to consider them.

But its working. I feel better, more in control of me, of something I can control rather than trying to control all the things I can't.

Benefits I can see I am healthier and I save a ton of money. Benefits I can't see. I have taken action on an addiction in my life, and am doing something about it.

says: Mike...that's great!!  I loved nicotine gum when I quit!  Have you tried the orange kind?Cool

says: oh...p.s.  things that helped me with the part about not knowing what to do with my hands - jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and I ate alot of pumpkin seeds.

Thanks for the advice and support! I got the cool mint... It all seems to taste terrible. On the other hand its a good reminder of what smoking does to you.

So far so good. 48 hours. And counting.

It may be a complete illusion, but I do think the gum is allowing me control things a little better. Odd, or maybe its just me controlling me. Now there's a thought!

says: Congratulations.  You are doing great.  I haven't smoked now for 3 years and I know that I never can because I am addicted.  I have friends that can smoke socially and never anywhere else.  Not me.  Keep up the great work.  You really seemed to nail it on the head with all of the reasons that you smoke.  I have a similar problem with my addiction.
