new shoes

This is a poem I wrote recently that I would like to share.

I was walking along the road one day

when I saw a pair of shoes.

I thought they were the thing to have. 

they were bright shiny and new.

As I walked along my way

I started to feel some pain.

I thought if I just keep with it

Ill soon feel good again.

 My friends did try to help me.

 They said those shoes don"t fit.

I would not listen to them. 

I would not hear of it.

When the pain had come to be

more than I could stand.

A stranger came up to me

and took me by the hand.

He said let go of all those things

you think you need today.

Before you even know it

good things will come your way.

Life is filled with shiny things,

I think I need to have .

I have found the things I really need

can not be held in my hand.

There was a hole in my soul

and another in my heart.

Taking off those shiny shoes

was just the place to start.

Day by day I fill those holes

with faith,hope,and love.

I no longer look for shiny things.

I look to the heavens above

and in me
