Day 89: Pay it forward

"Pay it Forward" is one of my favorite message-movies and I seek to emulate it in my life, tho it's hard because I have to fight self-absorption daily!

But today's lesson is about paying it forward and we are supposed to share some small ways in which we do this, to the betterment of the world and the lives of the people around us.

I like to do it in small ways, because sometimes that's all it takes to make a person's day nice: I know that's been my experience when someone's paid it forward for me.

  • I paid for a t-shirt for a local event in which I participated, but then left it for someone else to have. The sponsors ran out of shirts at the end, so that made me feel even better.
  • I make up the difference in change for someone at the store who doesn't have it
  • I hold doors for everyone if I am there first
  • I let people ahead of me in line, if people behind me don't mind, too
  • I pick up trash at the beach that isn't mine
  • I buy books I like, then give them away
My life is so bountiful, I have plenty to share. But I do admit sometimes I'm not inclined to make the effort to expend myself. But that can change and I feel TOOLS has helped me re-focus my attention less on my self and more on community efforts. Thanks!

I liked that lesson too!

Why do we always think it has to be something big?  Lots of small ways of paying it forward can make a big difference!  I love it when someone lets me out in busy traffic or my neighbors continue their snow plowing down into my driveway as well.  Holding doors for people and smiling at the clerk in a long checkout line go a long way to making the world a better place!  Keep up the good work!
