A day of gratitude

I am off to attend the funeral for a friend who lost her husband to cancer a couple days ago.  It makes one think seriously about the complexity and the joy of living.  So often I complain about my lot in life when in fact each day that I wake up, I should simply be grateful for one more day to experience all the beauty around me.  I'm not exactly sure how we can best help our friends and family who are struggling with grief or pain of the loss of a loved one but I do know that each one of us will be gone one day.  Until then it is our job to live our lives to the best of our abilities, to see the good in all things and to make some effort to make a difference in the lives of those left behind.  This day is bright, warm and blue...one of the last days of summer.  The air is fresh and clean....I promise myself to get all my work done today and to enjoy the moments ahead...to avoid complaining and to see the good in all things.

The air is fresh and clean...

Trying to "be there" for your friends or family in the time of loss is always a challenge.  I have recently just been through this myself.  Actually, I have been through it several times in my life and I wish I had some good advice to give.  The truth is every experience was different and different things were required of me to help those around me.

You are on the right track.  Your outlook is positive and a funeral is a celebration of a life that has past.  We honor that person and thank them for the experiences they have caused in our lives and those that we love.  Keep your mind open and what to do will present it self.  Kudos to you for being a great friend!
