I have had a wonderful working holiday here in Melbourne.
I have been reminded again of how blessed my life really is. My daughter said to me while we were having tea tonight 'You know, I was just thinking about what a wonderful family I have'. Music to my ears! You know, my daughter is 5 going on 40 some days, and she simply shines with enthusiasm, light and joy in life. I see her walk into really gloomy places and not falter in her sunshine smile. I see her bring smiles to the faces of some of the grumpiest people. She truly is a gift to the whole world. I remind myself to not keep her to myself and to share, as she is meant to be a light to the world I believe. She certainly lights the way for me.
She reminds me of my sister. She took a lot of time off work to be with us, and she looked after Maia when I was at the conference. Her and Maia have built on their special bond together. I feel so inspired by the example of my sister. She is forging ahead with her life and her choices and there are so many things she inspires me to do simply because she leads the way with her enjoyment of them.
I have noticed how really unhappy so many people look in this world. I turn on the tv and the news, the programmes show more angst-ridden and unhappy people. I walk down the street somedays and see so few smiles.
I have loved going places with Maia and my sister, to laugh and smile and be loud and proclaim to the world that life is great. I loved to do that too with my friends at the conference. To notice how much I refuse to dwell in the obvious hard and unhappy things in this life, acknowledge them for sure, work always to alleviate what suffering I can, but to find joy regardless. To revel in the hot sun and dance in the freezing rain. To laugh when I sink into mud. To revel in the power of the flooding creek that now rages as a river that blocks my way for my morning run. To marvel at how my daughter can turn a rainy day into an adventure with the cats and the dog and the mud and play for hours with none but nature as her companion.
Ah blessed indeed! To be happy to be going back to work, even though I know I have an impossible amount of work to do and the same problems with some work colleagues still remain. Happy because I have the privilege of education, amenities, a roof over my head, an income and friends and family who love and support me. Happy because I have my health that increases every day as I learn to take even better care fo myself. Happy because no matter how hard life can be sometimes, I know the sun will rise and the tide will roll in and then roll away again and the stars will shine. Happy because I know I can only do what I can do and no more (and no less).
Happy because I have found the secret to my life and I am living it to the fullest and every day is an adventure! Today's adventure was shopping for clothes for myself (which I used to avoid like the plague), my sister finding me a new cookbook to try new and exciting recipies and watching my sister battle adversity with rude and unhappy shop assistants and come out smiling and gracious and victorious. To watch my daughter learn a number of new games and in such a short time master them! And the joy and barely containable excitement upon her face! To watch a truly terrible movie with my sister and her partner and be inspired to do my tools for the day and write this mammoth blog!!
To wish a mountain of blessings upon any person who would read thus far- to anyone who can see the priceless treasure that abounds within only one day of my priceless life.
I am moved to tears when I think of the gold and silver that is my life. For this life I am truly and eternally grateful.
Thank-you.
Blessings!
