Oftentimes, it seems shy people can be viewed as fake, or stuck up, or aloof.....it takes time sometimes. People really don't open up until they share somethings...especially things that they wouldn't always share. I would just suggest, being more social, and don't have any expectations....that's when you'll get surprised by someone....

Thanks for sharing,

Mike

says: Hi PistonBrain8, It's not had to find other people to connect with. You just have to ask God (if you believe in God) or the Universe to send them to you, believe that they will show up in your life and receive the gift of friendship. Also, give away that which you desire to recieve! Best wishes on your journey!

says: hey thanks for the suggestions i'm been in a rut for over 3 years now and feel its realy hard to relate to most of the people I know letalone someone i don't, i need to get out there and find some new friends some time

Hi piston

I understand what you are saying. The older we get we sometimes find we can read people pretty well. People can disappoint on first impressions, but I think you must be pretty self-aware, and have a good idea of the kinds of relationships you want to have - thats a good thing.

Some people do seem 'fake' - but I have learned myself that often, people can surprise you. I have learned that everyone has a story, no matter how shallow they may seem or how disingenuous you may feel they are.

May I suggest that perhaps mixing in different circles may lead you to different groups of people. Whether you are searching for companionship or a relationship, often we can get in ruts, and not meet new people.  Try going to different places; trying new things, having new experiences. I wish you luck here.
