Hi Roland,

A good amount depends on your income.  If you have little or none you can get on Medi-cal and they will pay for the entire thing.  Hospitals have reduced rate plans for people who do not have enough income to get care.  You might call the American Medical Association and see if they have any suggestions.  Without knowing personal information it is difficult to determine.  Emergency rooms at all hospitals must give you help if you need it regardless of anything you may owe.  It is a federal law.  I am not familier with hurnias either and whether they become an emergency.  If you are working, if your doctor will place you on disability you will receive, I think its like 3/4 of your income and then you may qualify for Medi-cal.  Call the hospital and Medical and ask what they suggest.  I wish you well and am certain you will find a solution.
