I Probably Wont Be Around For Quite A While

I just got a call that the only

paying work I had this month

fell through.

I simply cannot get anybody

to hire me for painting, wallpapering,

or plastering, even though Ive had

a 33 year career and many thrilled customers.

Im out of money, and it looks

like I might have to give up this

apartment and lose my cell phone,

cable and insurance if something

doesn't change.

Even if I got a job they wouldnt

pay me until a week or two.

I must try to earn something

somehow, anywhere.

Until then, Im probably going to

get shut off here on my cable bill...

so...its been awesome and heart

warming to have yall as freinds.

Im here until they shut me off.

There are libraries for internet.

Steve, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles, wish that I had suggestions, but the only thing I can help with is support and we all feel the same.  There are public libraries with computers and if you have a library card, you can use one anywhere to keep in touch, don't lost that, it's a supply line to talking to people.

Minimum wage jobs stink, I know, been there, but there are always some of those available and contacts are contacts, jobs are jobs.  Does your town or county have a local job bank office or temp agencies?  Don't give up, something will happen for you, has to.

You're not alone You're not alone, AND

Sending you a hug Sending you a hug, Micci

Ideas, hopes, support

Whew that's tough and so sorry to hear it. Yes, libraries and internet cafes, friends' house...stay in touch when you can so you don't feel alone out there. And so we hear from you. Called ALL those thrilled clients? See if they will hire, recommend, refer, make you a sandwich? That's your network. Re-connect if you have to go door to door...so you have active references. And...look for other work...we need that as we age ...something less physical...can't hurt to use this time to go more in that direction...teach a class in plastering etc? There ARE thousands of options out there...don't give up....stay connected...reach out...possibly look for a room to rent where you barter home repair for the rent...can be done.

Hate that you are losing your phone but there was contact before phones. Sometimes also take one class...scholarship? Volunteer? At church...and you meet a lot of people there....important not to isolate as then all your irons in the fire cool off.

Meanwhile, you bring a lovely presence here. I hope you have many, many Tools, and keep using them, as you go through this life challenge.

Stay Strong

Try and stay strong. to echo Wordbird and Micci, there are jobs out there, depends what you want , you want to stick with your strengths but you may just have to look at doing anything.

The last time I was out of work was 5 years ago, and I was a bit fussy about the jobs I applied for, I would not do that again as it took me 6 months to get one, I could have temped but wanted a certain type of job and a minimum level of salary, in the end I had to bite the bullet. I may have been neddlessly out of work.

Of course I don't know your full circumstance, there are always constraints. And then for me there was a growing economy, not so much now.

Good luck in your quest.
