I know how you feel. I'm in early retirement, and single. I only live 5 miles out of town, but it seems like more. I'm lonely, too. And I worked with my friends. Now that I don't see them every day, it's different. And, yes, cyber-friends are great, but it's not the same. You can't go out to lunch or shopping with them. There's something to being able to see, and even hug a friend...I think God created us to need that "human touch".
What we need to do, is find some friends. So how do you do that? Talk to people in the grocery store? It is possible for friendships to start out like that. Maybe there will be a lesson about connecting with people. I have made my best friends through work or other people. When we age, I think it's a little more difficult to make friends because we're not out there in the work force or socializing as much. Maybe that's an "excuse". I don't know. Maybe people will have some tips?

Isolated
My Mom was the exact opposite. She grew up in the country and moved to the city. She would never go back. I, however, grew up in the city and moved to the country and don't want to live in a big city ever again! My Mom was a stay at home Mom and raised a large family. She did work for about 5 yrs. and my Dad worked 3 jobs while I was growing up.
My Mom would take interest in something, take a course on it, make something and then my Aunt in MT. would see it and take off with it and eke out a living with it. Photography, Woodworking, and Quilting. She became an expert in quilting in a relative short time and now teaches quilting. She sells her quilts for large amounts of money.
You don't have to be isolated even in the country. You might have to drive a little further to go visit a neighbor or go shopping or take a course for some hobby you'd like, but that's okay. Life is about living and learning. You can also take online courses as well, just make surer they are accredited if you want to continue education on a higher level.
