Great question Sweettea!!
I like to make myself yell at me. Hehehe.. sounds kinda sadistic, but when I catch "The Critic" talking smack and working so hard to hold me down, I scream at it with all my might!!!
You should hear me walking down the street... people looking at me funny like "WTF is this dood saying 'I CAN DO THIS AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME MR CRITIC!!!'" Heheheh... ok, well, I don't really do it out loud, but I do it in myhead and I think its pretty funny when I do it... and the best part is...
*looks around and whispers*
...it usually works. :)
If not, I keep yelling in silence about how I CAN do what ever it is The Critic thinks that I can't. I usually smile and The Critic dissipates for the moment.
Something to try anyway...
Thanks for blogging,

Inner Critics
I struggle with my own inner critic all the time. A nifty trick to remind yourself to be less critical and negative is the old string on the finger reminder. However, what many people today are doing are the little rubber bracelets. The idea is to pull and snap the bracelet anytime you catch yourself saying anything negative which will help you to catch yourself. Also, it will serve as a constant reminder every time you see it.
Cheers.
I understand :)
what you mean about it seeming automated. A stopwatch or timer is a great tool to break a pattern like that and most cell phones have them. Just try to be aware of your thoughts and see how long you can go with out having a negative thought. I used this method to stop some obsessing I was doing. At first it was like 3 seconds before the thoughts started again but I just kept resetting the timer and my brain, got up to 6 seconds, 8 seconds, 15 seconds and so on till I really broke the pattern and did away with the crazy thoughts.
Wishing you the best :)
