My Health

Hi everybody!

For those who don't know, I am Oliver, the member support manager for Tools To Life.  But I am also a member who has taken the Tools To Life program as well, and this is why I want to share this with you.

I have had asthma for over 26 years now - I was very ill as a child and it developed over the years.  I have been in hospital numerous times fighting for breath.

As the years went on, it got better, but was always there, and to be honest, I accepted it as my everyday life of having to take my medicine or else.

I took the Tools program (again) in early 2007 as I took it previousley in a slightly different format in 2002.  What I learnt through doing this is to stop making excuses and to be happy for being here.

I thought about my asthma, and why in a way I used it as an excuse for many things, and having such a fear.  So, one day in march 2007, I stopped relying on my medicine which I took several times a day, and was told I would need or else. I am now 7 months down the line, and have taken literally 6 times instead of 600 times.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying to the world, forget about medicine, and everything will be fine - BUT for me, I used taking the medicine as an excuse for being tired, for being drained, and removed myself from any blame.

I wont make the same mistake again, and I hope that other members see that they have control over their lives as well.

RIGHT ATTITUDE... I DO SO AGREE!

Hi there Oliver,

Glad to have you with the Blog Section again.  Make us all feel more aliveSmile.  I could understand every single detail ofwhat you've been into (being asthmatic, myself).  You are so right (we do control our lives)... and that includes how we perceive ourselves with health-related issues.  I had been terribly focused on other small issues (which I did magnify) and forgot to attend to my medications.  Nevertheless, I didn't have the attack.  Whoops, I can't be complacent.  Have to have a puff right now (te he!).   True, kidding aside, we don't have to take medications (or any other means) as an excuse for a lot of things.  That was a good mind opening, Oliver.  Thanks for sharing and thanks for the tremendous support, too.

Yesssiree, we are in control.  Have a great day!

Cheers,

Autumn MistKiss

Great Idea Great Idea

Congratulations

I commend you on your courage.  I can only imagine how fearful it must have been to stop taking your medication, overcoming that fear you obviously know of having to fight to get your breath in and out.

And good on you for getting over your excuses.  That's one big tick from me.

Excellent!!!

As a nurse for almost 30 yrs I am very excited for your being able to gain insight and control.  You are right that some folks and their chronic illnesses can be an excuse while others must accept and use the tools available to keep them at the optimal level of wellness.

We are all different and must follow our spirits, hearts, and of course instincts.

Way to go! Way to go!

Keep the positive health going

I know just what you are talking about.  I can't skip any of my medications, but I have been using my illness as an excuse.   Today I made plans with my brother to attend a ren fair.  I left my cane in the car, rested when I needed to and had a wonderful time.

I know I will pay for my activity in the morning, but just for today, I had fun.

I agree! I agree!

You make me smile You make me smile
