I am so frustrated I should scream... no really...

This spring I decided to take lessons and learn to sing... things are going smashingly well.  I got to sing on a choir for a Queen tribute show held at our theatre.  I then got invited to sing with a friends band.  Funny story behind that but I'll save some time and get to the chase.

My friend and singing coach have both said I need to let loose, to hold nothing back and literally scream out some lyrics.  This is so obscure to me... I don't scream... no really... I actually had my figure stuck in a closed car door and had the composure to ask the person to roll down the window so that I could explain that they might want to unlock the door and open it so that I could remove my trapped finger.  It hurt like stink but I just didn't think (nor would I want to) scream my plea for freedom through a closed window.

I need to overcome this to take my voice to the next level.

So my questions are... Has anyone had this problem while singing?  Has anyone overcome this need for control?  Has anyone overcome?  If so how'd ya do it?

Any guidance would be muchly appreciated.

I love to sing and I really want to do this well.

One more note: if you do a wrong note or forget a word just keep going, if you stop everyone notices, if you keep going they think it's part of the act... I learned that from my guitar teacher, he said if you stop you look silly and loose your composure, it hard to start again... so just pass it by and no one will even notice... be calm and pick up the beat... They call it improvisation I think... LOL

says: With music you have to feel it in your bones and let it out, you don't have to scream, just be on the same note as the band... The mic will make you loud enough on the speakers. Steve
