morning traffic

so this week I had an epiphany I would like to share with everyone.  I am not so good at getting up super early, but I do pretty good. anyway, when I take my dog to play (yes I take my dog to daycare sometimes) I have to travel on a busy main road to get to work rather than taking the back roads I normally take when I go straight there. one morning this week, I was irritated because this red BMW was just coasting along and in my way, of course. so I zoomed around him and went along my way. well, a few miles down the road, I happened to be in the lane that everyone else was in and that same red Beamer zoomed on by me. wouldn't you know, I was right behind that same car as I went through the gates to get to work?  so the next day, I decided to be that Beamer (no I didn't get a new car). I stayed in my same lane, went my same speed, didn't do any zigging or zagging to get around people (well, just once when people in front of me were turning, I'm not that patient yet...) I watched cars pass me up on mile 2 only to coast by them at mile 5, and yes, I did get through the gate before them.  what I realized by that drive to work, is that it is a lot like life, isn't it?  we get distracted by what everyone else is doing... that person passed me up, so I have to accelerate to try to get back in front. I can't let so and so get ahead of me.  If I would just focus on my own path in life, instead of worrying about what others are doing, or what they have, I will get to my destination with much less stress and struggle -- after all our path is just that, our path, so focus on it! I hope my traffic woes help someone else -- it sure helped me in more ways than one...!

What a great lesson! Thanks for sharing.

Great Lesson

Thank you so much for your post.  It is true in every sense and how wonderful to take from it what you have.  Sometimes the biggest lessons are learned through the smallest acts.

Way to go!!!!

Ironic

I was just reading today that the key to personal success is to "mind your own business".  The author of the book is not being mean when he says this, he is just saying focus on what you are doing and not what everyone else is up to.  The point, it seems that if we just focus on what the heck we are doing the ride is more enjoyable and who knows, maybe we'll get to where your trying to go sooner!

Thanks for sharing and for validating this thought.  Good luck to you.

yEAh!

I am proud of you Trudi!

It is funny that I realise this myself recently whilst on my bike, I now resist and I have stopped totally using my horn at pedestrians or slow cyclists or not well parked cars! I feel less anger now!

I need to work on not cycling on the pavement to be faster though...
