Volunteer Day

Dear Coach

Most of the self help programs out there these days seem to me to be very self oriented.  Today's lesson on volunteering puts yours above the rest.  It has been a habit of mine to volunteer to give back to the community.  It is important for our global community and society as a whole.  Thanks for putting this into the program.  I've noticed that when I am depressed and unmotivated my weekly volunteering helps me put my life into perspective, puts me back out into the community and lifts my spirits.  The volunteer day comes in the 10th? week.  So for those of you who haven't gotten there yet  please hang in there and volunteer anyway.

Your life will change for the better, mine has.  Thanks coach for putting this in.

Peace
Mirit

ME ME and YOU too

I agree! I agree!

Lovely of you to notice and blog on this. So true...here in TOOLS among the really great "change me, grow me, listen to me, prosper me" is also "give to, consider, support others as well as this planet." Because that's part of a full and meaningful circle of life. Thanks so much for saying so.

Thank You

I appreciate your recognition.  My vision is much more than giving people the Tools to empower their individual lives.  As People become more powerful, they should be able to apply that power towards improving their community as well.  As we do, we make not only our lives better, but the world around us better.

Imagine millions of people around the world doing Tools?  Can you imagine a global community of positive people sharing and working to be positive.  Can you imagine the impact we can make?

I myself am involved in a lot of volunteer community work.  One of the organizations or work with here in Santa Monica is:

I run a support group there for homeless men.  It has been amazing to be involved with so many people who are in an incredible difficult place in life with no family or support be able to turn their lives around.  The philosophy is an age old one of "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and he feeds himself for a lifetime."

We don't just give them a meal, we help them rebuild and get employment and get off the streets and create a life again.  I have learned as much or more working with them as I do my elite clients who can afford to work with me one on one.  I consider it an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to be involved.

I couldn't agree with you more that volunteering not only helps the community, but we are enriching and fulfilling our own souls as we do.  I believe we all need to get involved as we can and with what we choose.  I wait till the 10th week, because we first have to get ourselves to a place where we are feeling good and feeling powerful enough to volunteer.

I hope we together, the community of Tools makes a large impact on the community around us as we do.

Thanks again for your note.

With love and appreciation,

Devlyn

Wow - very powerful stuff

I'm only on day 12, and have not gotten to coach's message on volunteering, but I was brought up in a household of 11 people - two loving parents and 9 children.  My mother and father worked hard. We were by no means poor, but we were not a wealthy family either; however, were were always clean, well feed, and well loved.  Although we did not have a lot of things, we shared what we had with others.  My mother had an amazing gift of hospitality, and our home was always open.  Both my parents taught by example, and were generous we both things and their time.  I learned the gift of giving, sharing and volunteering from them, and when someone does give, share and volunteer the gifts that come back to them are amazing.  Perspective is one of those gifts.  Compassion is another.  There are many, many more, and one gift of giving that really pertains to day 12 in Tools is that by helping others, especially those less fortunate than oneself, there is nothing  in one's life so difficult that can't be dealt with that is worth complaining about.
