I have had a comfortable life growing up. My parents took good care of me.  Besides getting divorced they have been there for me financially and otherwise.

I have been given a good education and have a good job.  I went to school for my field and got a job in it.  But, I'm not happy with my career as an environmental consultant.

I have always enjoyed surfing and have traveled to several locations around the world to surf and fish.  Recently I bought a house and no longer have the time or money to continue this part of my life.

I have problems with getting up in the moring to go to work or otherwise.  I struggle with depression, anger and physical pain (I have a degenerated disk in my lumbar spine).  I drink alcohol too much and everyday and have a history of addiction that I am trying to change.  This is my current situation and I am not happy.  I want to be happy and enjoy my relationships, house, career and life.

It makes no sense that I am unhappy or that I use substances to change my mindset.  I should be happy.  I have a job that sustains me, I have traveled quite a bit (although I haven't been able to lately and want to more), I have a house, and I have Friends.  None of it makes sense to me and it is making me crazy.  I want to get to a point where I can stop the substances and get back to the things that matter.

Well that is my old story!  Since starting Tools I am doing better.  I don't drink during the week, I'm getting up on time, haven't used anything but alcohol in months, and getting active again.  Thanks to Tools and Myself.

I am trying to figure out how to be more satified with my job.  I am good at what I do as far as cleaning up the environment goes but am not happy with the everyday part of my job.  I cann't keep focus on the daily tasks.  I have to write reports, keep track of my time, keep up with my schedule, along with alot of other things that don't have to do with going out in the field and cleaning up an oil spill for example.  I'm sure I'm not alone but I just don't get satisifaction out of the parts of my job (the majority) that don't include going out and doing the work.

OK, now going back and reading what I just wrote, I see that I am complaining.  Is the answer.....Don't complain about it?  I do get satifaction out of completeing a job, even though it sometimes takes months.  But sometimes jobs don't get completed because they are very complex or there is no money to continue.  I just want to get satisfaction out of the day to day.  I am hoping to someday be happy with the day to day and the life that goes with it.

says: Is there a way you could relate the less desirable parts of your job back to the original goal that drew you to it in the first place? When I had a job with moments like this, I found it helpful to make tiny challenges for myself at every level-how *well* can I fill this out? How quickly? How can I innovate? Striving for excellence and task mastery can often help stoke motivation and builds up that little feeling of self-satisfaction each time. I don't think the answer is not complaining because complaints are just thoughts that serve to remind us that we either need to change our approach or our activity in some way. It must be frustrating when some jobs you invest your time in don't come to fruition but maybe if you can find a way to push for daily task-by-task excellence and innovation you will at least come away with the satisfaction that you learned and improved yourself while doing each project justice. Best of luck to you!Laughing

What is your answer?

I joined TOOLS because:
I want to change my life to be vibrant, happy, and energetic
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
Teaching surfing or being in the surf industry would be great. I would like to create a company that would get groups of people together or individuals that want to travel to a surf destination either to learn to surf or extend their surfing. The company could make all travel arrangements and teach what is needed to complete the arrangements, packing, and then get out and surf. Another dream I have had is too go to a third world location, alot of surf destinations are third world, and help build a sustainable infrastructure. In particular I would like to help countries build (engineer) running water a sewer. I would like to install drinking water wells in these places or drinking water treatment facilities to provide safe drinking water. In addition they also need sustainable waste water treat facilities. The perfect situation would include all of the above that would create jobs for local people, surfing and ecological tourism, a healthier environment for the local people and satisfaction all around
My favorite wild animal is:
probably a dolphin, but couldn't really pick just 1
Why (describe as much as possible):
Diverisfied ecology is life. Plants and animals have always been facinating to me and I feel a healthy environment includes a place for every living thing that can fit.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
In my house I have african cichlid fish. But I would like to have a chameileon lizard and a few other reptiles. If I was to have a mammal it would be a cat.
Why:
The fish are communal and colorful. The lizards are also colorful and reptiles remind me of the tropical places I love. I feel cats are peacful.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
 Surf and turf
Why:
Cause it is tasty and the best of both worlds.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Micheal Angelo, Einstein, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and George Washington
Why:
I would like to see if we COULD have a conversation and think if we could it would be interesting to say the least.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
 Sumatra, Indonesia
My perfect slice of pizza is:
 Artichoke, mushroom, and olive
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 Club Soda
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
 Reg coffee Black with sugar
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
That is too hard a question, not too mention nothing comes without a price.
A sunset I remember:
The cliffs of Carlsbad California I saw the green flash. Any sunset from Rincon, PR
